Dr. Candace Chmielewski joined the team at Foster Animal Hospital in 2019, and is fondly known by her patients as Dr. C.
She was born and raised in the Princeton, NJ area, and her love for animals began as a young child. Each summer she would care for all the cool critters that her science teacher mom would bring home from her classroom. Her passion for helping needy animals continued as she somehow convinced her father to adopt several of the neighborhood's feral cats.
Dr. C obtained undergraduate degrees in Biology and Dance from Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland. She then acquired her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, completing her clinical year at NCSU and graduating with high honors. She immediately fell in love with North Carolina and decided to stay. After graduation, Dr. C pursued a small animal rotating internship in the Charlotte area in order to gain more experience and advanced training within the small animal field, before joining us here. Her professional interests include surgery, preventative medicine/wellness care, and client education.
In her free time, Dr. C enjoys playing trivia, traveling, and socializing with friends. Being a dancer, she will never say no to a night out dancing and surprisingly this “Jersey Girl” is a Dallas Cowboy fan! She shares her home with four loving cats, an English Springer, and a border collie.
